A mobile Toyota, Honda and Nissan mechanic in Queens and NYC, for the cars that do the most miles here

Camrys, Corollas, Civics, Accords, Altimas and RAV4s are the cars that do the hard miles in Queens: the rideshare and TLC fleet, the commuter that never sees a highway, the family car on its third owner. They are reliable because their maintenance is simple, and simple maintenance is what we do at your curb: oil, brakes, batteries, plugs, alternators, a check-engine light read properly. No dealer appointment, and for a driver, no day off the road.

Starts at $70

Starting labor for an oil service. Brakes, batteries and diagnostics from $95, tune-ups from $130, with parts quoted for your specific Toyota, Honda or Nissan before booking.

What each one tends to need

CarCommon workNotes
Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Highlander, SiennaOil, brakes, batteries, plugs at the interval, water pumps on someLong intervals, but city miles come fast; hybrids take the 12-volt battery at the curb
Civic, Accord, CR-V, Pilot, OdysseyBatteries, brakes, oil, plugs, the odd starterSmall batteries go flat on short trips; see the Honda battery page
Altima, Sentra, Rogue, Pathfinder, MaximaBrakes, batteries, oil, alternators, diagnosticsCVT questions get an honest answer; fluid service yes, rebuilds no
Prius and the hybrids12-volt battery, brakes, oil, inverter coolantThe high-voltage battery is a shop job; everything else is not
Lexus, Acura, InfinitiSame platforms, same workSame mechanic, a nicer badge

We confirm the engine from the VIN before quoting, since a 2.5 Camry and a hybrid Camry, or a 1.5 turbo Civic and a 2.0, take different parts.

Why these cars end up at the dealer anyway

Not because they need to. The search for a Toyota or Honda mechanic in the city returns the dealer, Yelp and three forum threads of owners asking each other who to trust. The dealer is right for a recall or a warranty claim and wrong for the oil change, the brakes and the battery on a car that is out of warranty, which is most of them.

These cars are the easiest on the road to maintain properly. Parts are everywhere and inexpensive, the engineering is conventional, and a mechanic with a proper scan tool can do nearly everything short of a transmission at the curb. What they do need is the maintenance done on time, because a Corolla with 200,000 miles of on-time oil changes runs forever and one with skipped changes does not.

The known items

Toyota: long service intervals that city driving shortens, water pumps and thermostats on some engines at high mileage, brakes at a normal rate, and on the hybrids a 12-volt battery that goes with little warning and strands a car that has a perfectly healthy high-voltage pack. Honda: small batteries that short trips kill, brakes, plugs at the interval, starters on the high-mileage Accords and Civics, and the oil-dilution issue on some 1.5 turbos that makes on-time oil changes matter more. Nissan: alternators and batteries on the Altima and Rogue, brakes, and the CVT, on which our answer is honest: a fluid service on schedule helps it live, and a transmission that is already slipping or shuddering is a shop job we will not pretend to fix at the curb.

For all three, the check-engine light is where money gets wasted. A parts-store code is a starting point, not a diagnosis, and a lot of these cars have had two sensors replaced for a problem that was a vacuum leak. Our diagnostic reads every module and comes with a written finding.

For TLC and rideshare drivers

A Camry, a Sienna or an Altima that works for a living needs its oil more often than the sticker says, its brakes measured at each change, and its battery tested before winter, and it cannot spend a day at a shop. We come to the car between shifts, early in the morning or late at night, at home in Flushing or Jamaica or Jackson Heights or wherever it parks, and do the service there. We keep the record with the mileage, which matters when the car is inspected and when it is sold.

A visit, and what it costs

Text or call with the year, model and what it is doing or what it is due for. We confirm the engine and quote labor and parts before booking. Oil service labor starts at $70, brakes, batteries and diagnostics at $95, tune-ups at $130, a starter at $150, and alternators quoted after testing confirms the alternator. Parts are quality aftermarket or factory, quoted up front. If you are buying one of these cars used, our Toyota and Honda pre-purchase inspection is the separate service for that, at the seller's location.

Across Queens, Brooklyn and NYC

Flushing, Jamaica, Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Bayside, Astoria and the rest of Queens, and across Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island and Long Island. These are the most common cars in every one of those places, so we carry their common parts.

Common questions

Can you service a Prius or a hybrid Camry?

The 12-volt battery, brakes, oil and most routine work, yes, at the curb. The high-voltage battery and the inverter are shop jobs, and we tell you which is which at the diagnosis. A hybrid that will not start is very often the 12-volt battery, which is a quick fix.

My Nissan CVT is shuddering. Can you fix it?

Honestly, no, not at the curb. A fluid service on schedule helps a healthy CVT last, and we do that. A CVT that is already slipping or shuddering needs a transmission shop, and we would rather say so than sell you a fluid change that will not fix it.

Do you work on Lexus, Acura and Infiniti?

Yes. They are the same platforms with more equipment, and the work is the same. Parts sometimes cost more and we quote them the same way.

How often should a rideshare Camry get its oil changed?

More often than the maintenance minder says, because the minder assumes mixed driving and a working car does short trips and idling all day. Every 5,000 miles on synthetic is a sensible working interval for a car doing those miles, and we note the mileage each time.

Will using you instead of the dealer affect the warranty?

No. Maintenance done to the schedule with parts and fluids that meet the specification keeps the factory warranty intact, and we keep the record. Warranty repairs themselves are free at the dealer and that is where they should go.
